BEVERLY, Ohio (Aug. 1, 2024)—BrAva Fight, the local nonprofit increasing childhood cancer awareness and raising funds for both affected local families and the search for a cure, held its ninth golf outing Saturday, July 26, 2024, raising more than $24,000.

The event was held at Lakeside Golf Course and hosted 33 teams. One hundred and eight local businesses and individuals served as hole sponsors for the event, each donating $100.

“Every year we are so in awe of the number of businesses willing to help in this way,” said Traci Nichols, BrAva Fight president and mother of the late Ava Nichols, one of two local girls for whom the organization is named. “It sometimes feels like we aren’t making a big enough dent for local families fighting childhood cancer, but then you see these kinds of numbers: six signs on each hole showing that kind of support! And it just keeps coming, year after year. I can’t say enough about this community!”

The event also raised funds through 50/50 raffles, games, and a special ball drop in which golfers purchase numbered golf balls that are then mixed and released from the BrAva-themed Smith Concrete Truck on the putting green. The first ball to fall into the hole wins. Many of these prizes include money that is often donated back to the organization.

Golfers were treated to a chicken-on-the spit lunch, provided mostly by local businesses and individuals.
